Ch ch ch ch changes - new last name!
Hey ya'll,Changes are a part of life... I've reverted to my maiden name "Shukair" post-divorce. It will take me awhile to change my site over...new domain name and all. So for awhile it will be a Shukair/McNutt mash-up. (tbh it's weird to me after 40 years of being "McNutt"!)Thanks for your patience and understanding! I've toyed with the idea of just making my site "Gia" and may go that route. More to come! Thanks for following me!Artfully yours, Gia
My art on Auburn Symphony Season program
I am so honored that the Auburn Symphony selected my art once again to grace their program for the 3rd time this year. My piece "Rhapsody in Blue" was featured in their Masterworks series "Night at the Movies".This piece was inspired by my mother; many life experiences surrounding music and art. I went to symphonies with my mother in Atlanta, outdoors and underneath the stars, much like the Auburn Symphony’s Symphony and Art in the Park. The moon was luminous and large above us, the music transported us, and it was pure magic. My mother played the clarinet in the “Classic City Jazz Band” in Athens, GA, and often made the “set” for their performances. A favorite design included life-sized silhouette jazz musicians set around the stage and lit from behind (these are replicated in this piece in the moon).

2021: A New Beginning for a new era
During a recent guided meditation , we were visiting a cave. When the meditation was over, I realized I had painted this cave, in my piece "Secret Cave", some many months ago.
2021 is a new year - but unlike any other new year. "Happy New Year" seemed to have a different context this year. It's ending an unprecedented year of political crisis (in the US), the Pandemic, and the very real effects of isolation on all of us.During this period of isolation, my life has simplified, and then simplified some more. I've come down to the existential questions in life. The Meaning, and Purpose of life. I don't have answers yet (hey, I think this is a journey anyway!)While peeling back the layers of the onion (the layers being the "busy-ness" and activities that have filled my life since I became an adult), I have experienced and felt so many things. Somehow I let myself not do yoga for 8 months; and saw/felt my body become "old" in that short time. I've embraced meditation and a gentle flow practice, and feel I am being re-born. During a recent guided meditation , we were visiting a cave. We were allowed to bring any/all qualities we wanted to the cave (since it is imaginary). When the meditation was over, I realized I had painted this cave, in my piece "Secret Cave", some many months ago. How interesting and full-circle! This meditative journey is fascinating and life-affirming!
